Friends, Julie and Marilyn individually depict their long and painful struggle to overcome their sons Heroin addictions. The fight which spanned over a decade, took them to some of the darkest places they never knew existed. Both homely with family values and morals, they found themselves mixing in a world of unsavoury characters and drug dealers.
Our bundle of stories tells of Julie’s idyllic childhood in the raw outskirts of 1960 ‘s Melbourne. Marilyn on the other hand was brought up in Reading knowing only a simple existence.

We are currently carrying out drug awareness talks in schools and have achieved great success at Dorcan school in Swindon, soon to visit Swindon College in the new term and other schools.

If young people in schools have read our book or listened to our drug awareness talks, then whenever they are in a situation where they are tempted to use any drugs they will remember our story and our talk. That could just be the difference between a life of addiction hell, or a bright healthy future

I’m the mother of a son addicted to crack cocaine and can identify with so many of the things Julie Marilyn and their families went through. Drugs know no boundaries, they inflict pain, tragedy and destruction no matter who or what you are. Wealth and status don’t make a difference. Reading this book has helped me understand I’m not alone and more needs to be done to support addicts and families alike. I honestly felt the frustration, pain and anguish both these families suffered and I admire their bravery in sharing their very personal stories. You’re women worthy of medals in my eyes!
An excellent book and a warning to all those who are tempted by drug use. An incredible story of families and their support and suffering in this field of Addiction. A great read and a must for all those who have fears/concerns. A brilliant support for schools and treatment centres.
An incredible read, was drawn towards this book by personal reasons and just couldn't put down. It's an accurate and detailing account of everyday drug addiction and how it affects the addicted and their families, friends and loved ones. Open, honest & straight talking. Highly recommend.

Reading this book as a parent, and knowing one of the authors, it brings back in graphical detail how drugs destroy families. To lose your child is the worst thing that can happen in your life. This happened to Julie...I personally know the struggle she went through to get Scott off drugs then the unimanagable pain at his passing. Feeling she had failed, losing her loved son. This book should be read by everybody as a reminder to how drugs destroy family's and life's. It's so brave of the authors to share their story. I hope they find solace and continue the tenacity they demonstrated here for many years to come, to find peace in their life's.
This is a truly amazing read! A true insight to familys that have struggled and lived such a tragic tale! It's all laid bare for all to read. her life summed up in a book. You feel like you are going through Julie's journey with her. Such a strong women who has carried on to raise a beautiful strong daughter and has lovely grandchildren. Addiction is a disgusting disease and this goes to show that it can get even the unlikeliest of people. Julie thank you for sharing and I hope this goes on to help families that are struggling with addiction in there lives. You and your friends are a true inspiration.
